supplies

the services i use, or might use, to keep drawing

a shopping list with notes. each one has to earn its place on the shelf: save me time, show me a view i could not see, or help a drawing get made. otherwise it stays in the shop.

copic sketch markers

alcohol markers that blend and refill

markercolourrefillable

why it might matter

the greys are the whole reason. a cool grey set does most of a mountain by itself, and the nibs last long enough to learn them.

winsor & newton drawing ink

black ink for pen and brush lines

inkblackline

why it might matter

dries dark and stays put under marker once it has had its minute. i use it for window frames, roof lines, and the signature when pencil is too shy.

hahnemühle paper

heavy cotton sketch and watercolour paper

papercottonheavy

why it might matter

the sheet that does not buckle. marker sits on top, ink stays crisp, and the cream colour is already most of a morning sky.

posca paint markers

opaque water-based paint pens

markerpaintopaque

why it might matter

for the bits that go on top: snow on the ridge, the white of a window, a pink flower in a box. they cover marker and ink, which nothing else i own does.

axidraw plotter

a pen plotter arm that draws on paper

robotplotterpen

why it might matter

a second hand for the studio. it could do the straight bits, the rectangles of a shop front, while i do the awnings and the chairs. i would like to see us draw together.

epson perfection scanner

a flatbed scanner for paper drawings

scannergalleryprints

why it might matter

the way a drawing gets from the wall to the gallery. a flatbed keeps the paper texture and does not bend the sheet. phone photos make the cream paper go grey.
